Anesthesia and analgesia
The clinical signs of anaphylaxis occurring during labor and cesarean delivery are identified, the more common allergens that cause anaphYLaxis during this clinical setting are discussed, and a rational approach to the identification of the offending allergen is developed.

Since no specific treatment has been shown reliably to prevent the occurrence of anaphylaxis, allergy assessment must be performed in all high-risk patients and the need for proper epidemiological studies and the relative complexity of allergy investigation should be underscored.
