Episode 1
Critical Mode: This was the first World that I started having a problem with the difficulty. If Sora isn't already, get him to level 20 by visiting other Worlds. He's going to want Leaf Bracer.

Sora, Donald, and Goofy arrive at Port Royal in the middle of the night. Immediately turn around to find a save point and the Naval Map (Treasure #1). At the eastern end of the Rampart area are two more chests that hold a Dark Shard and a Mythril Stone (Treasures #2-3). Take the west exit.
After seeing that Pete is working with Captain Barbossa, there is a quick two-part battle against some Undead Pirates. These enemies will show up for the rest of Sora's time in Port Royal, and can only be defeated when their true form - the skeletal one - is visible. The Return Fire reaction deflects the shots from the pirate's muskets.
I found Magic to be incredibly useful here. Blizzard freezes the Undead Pirates solid for a good length of time, Thunder will confuse them, and Fire will make them run away.
Follow the pirates into the Town by taking the bridge to the west. Defeat a swarm of Heartless, including the new Cannon Gun, then team up with Will Turner to find the captured Elizabeth Swann. (He doesn't actually join the party, unfortunately.)
You gain control of Sora in the southwest corner of the Town. Take the small alley to the northeast for a Mythril Shard (Treasures #6). On the south wall of this alley is a set of breakable boxes. Destroy them to reveal a small hidden space with an AP Boost inside (Treasure #5). Do the same to the north wall to reach another alley, and check the northeast corner for a Dark Stone (Treasure #4). Destroy the crates of dynamite on the north wall of this alley as well to find the Mythril Gem (Treasure #7).
Use the northwestern exit to reach the Harbor, and meet up with Captain Jack Sparrow. He will join the party at this point. Speak with Will when ready to begin the voyage to save Ms. Swann.
Fun Fact: The voice actor for Captain Jack is also the voice actor for Tidus in Final Fantasy X.
Once aboard The Interceptor, head to the Ship's Hold to find a save point and a Moogle Shop. Consider purchasing the Victory Bell and Chain Gear weapons for Donald and Goofy. Return to the deck and speak with Captain Jack to bring up a map of possible destinations. Of the two NEW! locations, select The Black Pearl in the center to progress the story. There will be a short ambush by some Undead Pirates and Air Pirate Heartless.
The Interceptor catches up to The Black Pearl at Isla de Muerta: Rock Face, and Jack leaves the party. Follow the short path to the Cave Mouth, and fight off some Heartless before finding a Bright Shard and a Mythril Shard (Treasures #8-9) along the edge of the water. Move forward further into the island.
After reuniting with Will and Elizabeth, the gang has to stay alive for one minute. Fighting against Undead Pirates is a little more involved here; they can only be damaged while in direct moonlight. The enemies are unlimited, making this a fairly decent place to level up Valor Form if you have the Drive Gauge to activate it.
Critical Mode: The enemies can quickly overwhelm Sora, especially if he is not in the moonlight. Be extremely careful here, and use both Blizzard and the Return Fire command as often as you can to avoid attacks.
Sora automatically returns to the Interceptor at the completion of the battle, and gains the Isla de Muerta Map after the following scene. Return to Port Royal for some more scenes.
The Black Pearl will catch up to the Interceptor, bringing Sora into a fight where he must protect the medallion. Whenever Sora gets injured, the medallion falls down and can be picked up by an enemy. Whatever enemy has the medallion will have a small coin icon on them, and Sora has to defeat that enemy within one minute. Defeat all the enemies to finish the sequence.
Critical Mode: This is another sequence that can be difficult if you aren't ready for it. Losing during this fight puts Sora and the crew back two combats. Play defensively here; run-up to the higher portion of the deck and lure enemies up one at a time.
Jack returns to the party, and the ship sets sail. Right away Sora needs to get rid of some burning barrels. Get close and Launch them from the deck, but be aware that the Heartless can cause them to explode. The only reason to attack the Heartless is to get some experience.
Back at Isla de Muerta, head through the island to a new area, the Powder Store. An Undead Pirate bursts out from behind a wall of explosive crates, revealing an AP Boost (Treasure #11). Continue down the pathway, and two more Undead Pirates will appear. Destroy the last stack of boxes for another AP Boost (Treasure #10).
The next area is the Moonlight Nook, and contains the last three chests. They hold a Mythril Shard, Serenity Gem, and a Power Stone (Treasures #12-14). Head through the exit to Isla de Muerta: Treasure Heap for a boss fight against Barbossa and the Illuminator.
Boss: Barbossa & Illuminator
If Jack falls in this battle, Sora loses. No matter what else happens, make sure you can keep his HP up. Consider giving him some Potions before starting this battle.
The battle arena stars off dark enough that Sora can't see Barbossa. Find the glowing eyes of the Illuminator and attack it to bring the light level back up. Attack Barbossa and whittle down his health. When the screen darkens again, find the Heartless and defeat it once more to return the light.
Once Barbossa's health gauge drops below half, he will begin a multi-hit attack that prompts a Land reaction command, followed by Reverse Blade. If Sora misses this, Barbossa hits him with a substantial combo that will almost certainly take away all of Sora's health.
Like all of the Undead Pirate enemies, Barbossa is weak to Magic. You might also notice that the Illuminator drops a ton of Drive Orbs when you defeat it. Pop into Wisdom Form and use the better magic, as well as the long-range basic attacks, to turn this battle into a cakewalk.
With Barbossa defeated and the medallion returned to the chest, everyone parts ways to continue their individual journeys. Four new pictures are added to Jiminy's Journal, Sora receives the Follow the Wind Keyblade, and two more Worlds are revealed on the World Map: Agrabah, and Halloween Town.
As usual, Sora can visit either World first, but this guide assumes you go to Agrabah next. Please move to the KH2: Agrabah page to continue.
Episode 2
Return to Port Royal and head to the Harbor to meet Jack, and fight off some pirates. Elizabeth will show up and ask Sora and Jack to return to Isla de Muerta and search for Will. Use the northern exit from the Harbor to reach The Black Pearl. Speak with Jack on the main deck and select Isla de Muerta to find Will.
Boss: Grim Reaper
This particular Heartless is disappointingly easy to defeat. It can warp around the deck of the ship, but otherwise doesn't have much in the way of defenses. Block or avoid its attacks, and stay aggressive.
The three elemental spells will affect the Grim Reaper in a similar way to the Undead Pirates. Thunder seems to do the most damage, but Blizzard stuns it for a couple of seconds. Fire is in the middle for effectiveness.
Despite defeating the Heartless, Organization XIII gets the better of Sora. He finds himself, along with Donald, Goofy, and Jack, at the Ship Graveyard.
Right away, Sora can use a save point and open a chest for the Feather Charm (Treasure #15). The only exit from the hold leads to Seadrift Row.
Move forward along the path, taking the Serenity Gem, King Recipe, and Mythril Crystal (Treasures #19-21) from the chests in the nearby wreckage. Continue along the path to the next area.
Defeat the Nobody, a Gambler, then view some scenes. Sora obtains a Cursed Medallion and the Ship Graveyard Map. Return to Shipwreck Cove to land at the Seadrift Keep. Check underneath the area Sora lands in to find the next Gambler. Defeat it for a second Cursed Medallion.
There is a chest on the top level, right beside the anchor, that holds the Meteor Staff (Treasure #18) for Donald. Take the path along the northern side of this area for an Orichalcum (Treasure #17) in the northwest corner, then enter the area under the ship for an AP Boost (Treasure #16). Use the northern exit to return to Seadrift Row.
There will be another Gambler on this map, so ignore the Undead Pirates and find the Gambler right away. The final Gambler is located at Isla de Muerta: Cave Mouth. This one has the shortest time limit at 10 seconds, but an aggressive Sora shouldn't have any problem.
Collecting all four medallions begins a scene on the deck of the Black Pearl, after which Sora decides to return to the town of Port Royal. Before going, however, I strongly recommend equipping the Meteor Staff to Donald, as well as the Thunder Boost Ability, and adjusting his magic so that he only casts Thunder. It might be a good idea to equip some Ethers on Sora and Donald, as well. Increasing the number of Draw Abilities on Sora is also helpful.
Boss: Grim Reaper
Part 2 against this Heartless begins a bit differently. Sora needs to dislodge all the medallions the Heartless has by attacking it with Magic. You can see the number of medallions it currently has in the top right of your screen, and the number Sora has in the top left.
Donald casting Thunder liberally will help. Only after picking up all the medallions and returning them to the chest with Replace can Sora deal damage. The enemy's appearance changes as medallions are removed and replaced from the chest.
As the Heartless is sucking medallions out of the chest, Sora can use the Hinder Reaction command to interfere. After grabbing the weapon, use Loot Launch to throw the weapon at the Heartless, damaging it and knocking up to 200 medallions free.
While the Grim Reaper is swinging his scythe around, cast Blizzard to freeze it solid. This will give Sora a chance to deposit medallions into the chest without getting harmed.
Defeating the Grim Reaper gives Sora the Secret Ansem Report 6, the Magnet Element upgrades Magnet to Magnera, the Album updates, the Story gets its last entry, and you get an Achievement.

1 guide
With the upgraded Magnera, Sora can continue the story at Atlantica. The routes to Agrabah and Halloween Town are reopened, making their Episode 2 available now as well. Your next goal, however, should be Olympus Coliseum, as the Battle Level is lower.
Puzzle Pieces
There are 13 Puzzle Pieces across Port Royal. The following information will guide you through getting all the Puzzle Pieces in order, however, there will be some backtracking.
Land at the Rampart save point, and head east along the walkway to find the first crown near Elizabeth (Piece #1).
Use the western exit from the Rampart to reach the Harbor. The crown is in the northeast corner of the map, but very high up. In order to get enough height to reach it, stand on the boxes over in the northwest corner, by the net holding cargo. Jump/Dodge/Glide over to the crown (Piece #2).
Cross the bridge to the southwest to reach the Town. Move directly south from this entrance and destroy the boxes of dynamite (or jump over them) to reveal the next crown (Piece #3). Go directly east from this crown to see the next one above some more destructible boxes (Piece #4).
Return to the Harbor and board The Black Pearl, where there are two crowns on the deck. The first one is behind Captain Jack on some cargo (Piece #5). The second is in front of Captain Jack, in the rigging (Piece #6).
Drop to the deck of The Black Pearl and enter the Captain's Stateroom. There is a crown on top of the round table in the middle of the room (Piece #7).
Ask Jack to bring Sora to the Ship Graveyard, then pass through each area until you reach The Interceptor's Hold. There is a crown in the corner (Piece #8).
Use the save point to return to the World Map, then land again on The Black Pearl. Ask Jack to bring Sora to Isla de Muerta next, and move through the first two areas to get to the Powder Storage. Destroy the second pile of boxes on the east side of the tunnel to find two more crowns (Pieces #9-10). The piece to the north is #9, and the one to the south is #10.
Make your way back to the Ship Graveyard via The Black Pearl so that Sora appears at the Seadrift Keep. There is a ship's anchor lodged in the western wall. Attack the anchor a few times to dislodge it, then jump up and grab the crown before the anchor swings back (Piece #11). Turn to the east to see another crown in the ruins of a wall (Piece #12).
Drop down and move to the Seadrift Row map. The final crown in this World is about halfway down the path, in the ruins of a crow's nest to the south (Piece #13).

Event Quests
Absent Silhouette
To fight Larxene, land in The Black Pearl, and ask Jack to bring Sora to Isla de Muerta. You should see the Silhouette upon arriving at the Rock Face area.
Larxene starts the battle by summoning a duplicate. This extra enemy is just as strong but goes down in a single hit. If Sora can manage to deal damage to both targets at the same time, Larxene will take double damage.
For the first half of the fight, it is enough to simply attack Larxene at every chance, without much thought to tactics. Once she reaches half health and below, however, it becomes important to watch what she's doing. The number of clones increases dramatically for some of her attacks, which means damage increases as well. Some well-timed blocks, however, can trivialize these attacks.
The only other attack worth mentioning is a pair of thunder ball walls that shoot out of her hands. This looks and acts just like the fire wall that Hades used in KH1. Get up in the air or move in a circle along with Larxene to avoid damage.
Defeated this member of Organization XIII rewards Sora with the Cloaked Thunder Synthesis Recipe and a Lost Illusion Synthesis Item.
SB Time Attack
Location: Rampart, speak with Will
Goal: Get through the checkpoints within 40 seconds
The time limit here is actually extremely generous. Sora needs to ride through all 23 of the checkpoints, represented by floating jewels, within 40 seconds. The first several checkpoints are all on the ground, but eventually, Sora will have to jump to reach them. I passed this on my first try, failing several of the jumps. Try it once to figure out where the checkpoints appear, and you should hit the goal on your second try with little effort.
Mushroom XIII: No. 10
Location: Isla de Muerta: Moonlight Nook
Goal: Complete within 55 seconds
Land at the Rock Face save point, then head into the caves. Equip as many Finishing Plus Abilities as you can. Sora learns one at levels 49 (Sword), 65 (Shield), or 85 (Staff), and one is attached to the Rumbling Rose Keyblade. I also recommend removing any Air Combo Plus Abilities, but keeping Air Combo Boost.
If you did all the synthesis grinding back in Kingdom Hearts 1, this should bring back old memories. Mushroom XIII No. 10 behaves just like the Black Ballade Heartless from that game. You remember them, they were in Deep Jungle?
Well, in this incarnation, Sora actually needs to defeat the Heartless instead of just completing the minigame enough times in a row. This version is actually quite a bit easier, IMHO. Begin the duel, then move away a bit as five versions of the Mushroom appear in the air. The real one will move up and down, then all five will fly about the cave. Track the real one, then attack with an air combo. Deplete its entire health bar within the time limit to win.
There are only two difficult aspects to this fight. The first is tracking the real Heartless. If you find that they move too fast, use the Pause feature with . Quickly pausing and unpausing can help tremendously, and is the tactic I recommended back in KH1. The other difficulty is actually hitting the correct enemy. Even with target lock, I found that Sora would occasionally hit the wrong Heartless with his aerial attack if I had him placed too far to one side.
